Dentures
Dentures are a removable way of replacing missing teeth. Patients who are missing their natural teeth often appear older than their age and are prevented from eating foods they enjoy. The number of missing teeth and condition of existing teeth, would determine whether a partial or full denture is recommended.
Removable Partial Denture
A partial denture is ideal for patients who 1) are missing multiple teeth and 2) have several healthy teeth remaining. A partial is a removable appliance that rests on the gumline and attaches to the adjacent healthy teeth. The advantage of a partial denture over a complete denture is its stability, because it uses the existing teeth as anchors.
Complete Denture
A complete denture is the solution for patients who are missing all of their teeth or do not have any remaining healthy teeth. A complete denture is a removable appliance that rests on top of the gums. To achieve more stability, a complete denture can be attached to dental implants.
